Canadian born Todd McFarlane's big break in the comics industry came when at Marvel with his work on "Amazing Spider-Man" in the mid 1980s. He took the title from a #9 position to #1 and a comic book super-star was born!

In the early 1990s Todd formed Image Comics, along with fellow comic book artists Jim Lee, Rob Liefeld, Jim Valentino, Erik Larsen, Marc Silvestri and Whilce Portacio. It was whilst at Image when "Spawn" was first published, a title which he had created some 10 years earlier. Spawn #1 sold 1.7 million copies, making it the best-selling independent comic book ever.

Todd eventually expanded the Spawn brand, and in 1994 formed his own toy company known as McFarlane Toys. With their intricate detailing, Spawn action figures have become some of the most highly sought-after toys in the market with some McFarlane action figures having a very high collector value. McFarlane toys also produces action figures from the sports, games, TV, movies and music industries.
