Peter David to adapt 'Astonishing X-Men' as a novel

Peter David the wonderful author whose job it is to adapt movies and comics into novels has been nabbed by Marvel to adapt Joss Whedon's 'Astonishing X-Men' Starting with 'Gifted' which hits shelves sometime this September.
David has been the author of some great stories like Spider-Man, Batman Forever, The Return of Swamp Thing, and The Incredible Hulk. He has been compared to Joss Whedon before; with 'Bleedingcool.com' saying they both have "A lightness of touch, a fine hand with witty, stylised dialogue, a tendency to slip contemporary reference, a repeated desire to play against type, and the commonality of combining action, comedy and horror, often at the same time".
Whedon's work on 'Astonishing' was amazing and the book still sells highly today in collected volumes, my guess would be that Marvel is thinking that there is an untapped audience who may not pick up a comic but will pick up a novel.
